Heindl meets Fairtrade

Positive Results for the Fiscal Year 2013/14 And Future cooperation with Fairtrade Austria

Confiserie Heindl was able to continue its successful course of business in the past fiscal year: The Heindl GesmbH (without subsidiaries) recorded a turnover of approx.17 Mio. Euros, the entire Heindl-Group reported revenues of around 23 Mio. Euros. This represents a turnover increase of about 6% for the Heindl-Group. For Confiserie Heindl´s own shops the sales increase even lies at 11%. Nearly 60% of total sales were generated by „Confiserie Heindl“ shops, the remaining part through food retailers and exports. This expansion was accompanied by a 4% staff increase.

Furthermore comprehensive investments were undertaken: an extensive television advertisement campaign of close to 500.000,- Euros in addition to an investment of some 350.000,- Euros in the modernization of production facilities and machines such as a Kalfass packaging machine, an Ishida weight scale as well as a partial redesign of our SchokoMuseum and new and existing store locations. The opening of the branch in the Lugner City Mall but also the relocation of the branch in Vienna´s XII district to the pedestrian zone in Meidling have had a positive impact. This was followed by the opening of the 31st branch nationwide at the new Vienna Central Railway Station. Moreover, Heindl was awarded the „Higher Level“ certification according to IFS-Food (International Featured Standard-Food) which in turn guaranties food safety to our customers and enhances our attractiveness among our food retail clients.

Confiserie Heindl – 1 st Mozart Kugel made from 100 % Fairtrade-Cocoa

The new Fairtrade-Cocoa Program was tailored to the needs of Heindl and Pischinger – it enables us to obtain one of our most valuable raw materials – cocoa – from fairtrade sources while still permitting us to purchase regionally all other ingredients that can be covered by local suppliers, such as sugar, liqueurs, marmalades as well as wheat and soy flour. Therefore, starting October 2014, we have converted our entire HEINDL- und PISCHINGER product range to 100% fair trade cocoa. This means that not only products such as Pischinger Almond- and Hazelnut Triangles, but also our extremely popular Christmas tree ornaments will be made exclusively using fair-trade cocoa! Confiserie Heindl has thus made an important step towards enabling cocoa farmers in West Africa and Ecuador among others to receive a fair price for their product hence improving their living conditions and helping them reach a higher level of self-determination.

Still to come in this year: relocation of the branch at the Auhof Center Mall to the newly built part of the mall as well as the relocation of the branch in Leobersdorf to the adjacent shopping mall “Leo”. Moreover, we will further promote the expansion of our franchise network to the western Austrian states.
